Simon Sizer is back again with his sultry sophomore EP released via Steyoyoke titled Rebirth. Yet another intriguing three-piece collection emerges from this up-and-coming Moroccan producer who plays effortlessly with tone and texture.

Rebirth begins steadily with an extended and subtle introduction in the form of “Aconit”. The song maintains this muted subtlety throughout, playing with abbreviated melodic motifs and a twittering array of synths. The general feeling of this track is one of exploration and mild wandering.

“Akna” uses the same powerful subtlety of “Aconit", while building a more serious and somber tone. The song smooths over gentle and very gradual builds while maintaining the sentiment of exploration and continuous forward movement through the persistent bassline.

The energy of the EP is elevated slightly with the final track “Neshama”, which injects even more curiosity and raises the stakes on the narrative of the collection as a whole. “Neshama”, in particular, is a dynamic and expressive highlight. Towards the middle, there is an ethereal, stellar suspension which adds another layer of dimension to the song and to the depth of the EP as a collective work.

On the whole, Rebirth is a passionate and rare point of view.
